Cookie & Storage Policy
Last updated: 16 April 2026
This page describes the browser storage used by the Akaro AI marketing website (akaro.ai), the Akaro platform (platform.akaro.ai), and the Akaro Chrome browser extension. We are transparent about exactly what we store and why, and — importantly — what we do not store.
1. Cookies on akaro.ai and platform.akaro.ai
| Name | Purpose | Where | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| No tracking cookies | The akaro.ai marketing site and the platform.akaro.ai application currently do not set any analytics, marketing, or tracking cookies | — | — |
We currently do not set tracking, analytics, or advertising cookies. If that changes — for example, if we introduce product analytics to better understand how customers use the platform — we will update this page and, where required by law, ask for your consent before setting non-essential cookies.
2. Local storage used by the platform
The Akaro application uses your browser’s localStorage and sessionStorage for authentication and preferences. These are strictly necessary for the platform to work.
| Name | Purpose | Where | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| access_token | Short-lived JWT that authenticates your browser to the Akaro backend | Browser localStorage | 15 minutes, rotated via refresh token |
| refresh_token | Longer-lived token used to obtain new access tokens without re-logging in | Browser localStorage | 7 days, revoked on sign-out |
| akaro-theme | Your chosen interface theme (light / dark / system) | Browser localStorage | Persisted until cleared |
| impersonation_info, real_token | Stored only during a super-admin impersonation session; allows exiting impersonation and restoring the admin session | Browser sessionStorage | Until tab closes or impersonation exits |
You can clear any of this at any time through your browser’s developer tools or by signing out. Clearing access_token or refresh_token will sign you out of the platform.
3. Chrome extension
The Akaro Chrome extension stores the following locally on your device through the Chrome extension storage API. It does not set cookies.
- Your Akaro access and refresh tokens, synced from platform.akaro.ai so you do not need to sign in again inside the extension.
- Your preferences (for example, concurrency settings for Google Sheets autofill, answer length, the backend URL when using a custom deployment).
- A local activity log of recent autofill / draft / insert operations, shown in the sidebar, which you can clear at any time.
The extension does not access Google Workspace data without your explicit action, and it does not transmit Google user data to third parties other than to the Akaro backend to fulfil the specific user-requested feature (e.g., to generate an AI draft reply in Gmail).
4. Third-party content
Our marketing site may embed third-party content (for example, videos from YouTube on a product page). If you interact with such content, the third party may set its own cookies governed by its own policies. We do not share personal data with such third parties for advertising.
5. Your choices
- You can clear local storage and cookies at any time through your browser’s settings or developer tools.
- You can sign out of the platform to invalidate the stored access and refresh tokens.
- You can remove the Chrome extension from your browser, which clears its stored data.
- You can use your browser’s Do Not Track or privacy settings; since we do not set tracking cookies today, there is nothing additional we need to do when you enable those.
